As the daughter of a famous musician in the 80's who grew up in a house-hold surrounded by MUSIC....Music is actually the first form of 'Expression' that I encountered. It was what our father woke us to....And I still SHOCK my much older friends, when I sing the lyrics of a 1950's funk. Its almost as if I'm an old soul re-incarnated in a young body. Bia Alex, are you sure....? (See them looking at me suspiciously) But truly, how could I possibly know the complete LYRICS of songs almost twice my age?

My Ex, Tiger (not his real name) is an epileptic music lover. He would most times NOD his head in certain uncoordinated body movements, totally unflattering and HILLARIOUS but in a way I found secretly 'endearing'....experiencing pure ecstasy to all his favourite music and dude hardly ever remembered a single LINE of any song. (Hahahah).  You see, I remember back when I could sing practically every song I heard, word for word and people used to wonder how come, I learned a song so fast....Actually, it was pretty easy. Though a few times, I had the help of cover leaflets and music MAGAZINES (which by the way only covered current songs with bad spellings and their wrong synononyms) Most times, I simply LISTENED....Put a song on repeat, 5 times...and Viola! I caught it....Infact basic writing could almost tell what word would come next, if you know how to RHYME.

I not only listened to the BEAT or the music (Instrumentals) as I like to call it. I listened intently to the main FOUNDATION of each song, it's LYRICS because that's where the core message is. So it confuses me, how anyone can enjoy music without paying attention to the message, if any at all.

Music is a major tool of EXPRESSION, it has always had the power to shape consciousness and if we paid more attention to the CONTENT of each song we listened to....we may find the courage to feel things we never thought we could feel, go places we never knew we could go and even EXPERIENCE the motivation to change our thoughts, ourselves and perhaps the world at large.

The song playing is my "Music Essential" for the weekend....It was originally written by BONO and released March 6,1992 by the Irish band U2 in the "Achtung Baby" Album and re-recorded as a duet in 2005 with Mary J Blige, one of my Favourite Female Soul/Rn'B Artistes of all times. It describes the deepest TRUTH about the difference, disunity, division, hatred and segregation, people experience everyday. If only we understood that LOVE truly is a temple.... the world needs to come together as ONE and "carry each other" because there's so much that UNITES us than divides us.

Every time I hear this song, I get goose pimples....And for instrumental LOVERS, the instrumentation is out of this world. Do you know the song? Have you listened to it word for word? Does it do to you what it does to me? Well, take a Listen....let's FEED our minds. I highlighted my favourite lines in the lyrics. Ponder on it and don't forget to share your thoughts about its message. I'm itching to find out your thoughts.

Title : ONE
Artiste : MARY J BLIGE feat U2
Year: 2005

Is it getting better
Or do you feel the same?
Will it make it easier on you now?
You got someone to blame

You say one love, one life (one life)
It's one need in the night
One love (one love), get to share it
Leaves you darling, if you don't care for it

Did I disappoint you?
Or leave a bad taste in your mouth?
You act like you never had love
And you want me to go without

Well it's too late, tonight
To drag the past out into the light
We're one, but we're not the same
We get to carry each other
Carry each other

Have you come here for forgiveness?
Have you come to raise the dead?
Have you come here to play Jesus?
To the lepers in your head

Well, did I ask too much, more than a lot?
You gave me nothing, now it's all I got
We're one, but we're not the same
Well we, hurt each other
Then we do it again

You say
Love is a temple
Love is a higher law
Love is a temple
Love is the higher law
You ask me to enter
Well then you make me crawl
And I can't be holding on
To what you got
When all you got is hurt

One love
One blood
One life
You got to do what you should
One life
With each other
Sisters and my
One life
But we're not the same
We get to
Carry each other
Carry each other

One love
